Published: Thursday 04 April, 2013

HOW TO PUT IN CONTACT LENS?

1. After wash hands and dry hands with clean towel, place the contact lens on the index finger and make sure that it isn’t inside-out. (Handle with care or you may damage or invert the lens)

2. Gently pull your skin away from your eye. Use the index finger of your opposite hand to pull your upper eyelid upward; use the middle finger of your dominant hand to pull your lower eyelid downward.

3. Look upwards and put the contact lens towards your eye calmly.

4. Blink slowly so as to not dislodge the contact lens. Take note of any pain or discomfort you may have. If you think that something may be wrong with your contact lens, remove and fully clean it, then try again.

HOW TO REMOVE CONTACT LENS?

1. After wash hands and dry hands with clean towel, fill your case about halfway with solution before you take your contact lens out.

2. Use the index finger of your opposite hand to pull up your upper eyelid. Use the middle finger of your dominant hand with the contact lens on it to pull your lower eyelid down.

3. Look up and carefully slide the contact lens down, then pluck it out. Be careful not to rip the contact lens.

4. Place the contact lens in the palm of your hand. Rinse with lens solution and gently rub it with a finger, from middle to outer edge then flip it over and do the same to the other side.

5. Place it in lens case and repeat with the other contact lens.

The Basics of Contact Lens Care: Clean, Rinse and Disinfect

1. Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling contact lenses or before touching your eyes. Any residue from lotions, soaps, or chemicals may stick to the contact lens, causing pain, irritation, or blurred vision when they are in the eyes. Dry hands with a clean towel.
2. Once remove contact lens, "clean" it with the recommended solution. Cleaning removes protein buildup, cosmetics and other debris that impairs lens comfort. Rub the lens in the palm of your hand with a few drops of solution, even if you are using a no-rub cleaning solution.
3. "Rinse" the lens to remove the loosened debris: Rinsing is an important step.
4. Store the lens in your clean lens case and fill with fresh "disinfection" solution; don't re-use or top-up your old solution. Disinfecting kills microorganisms on the lens.

***Always use the eye care products or solutions recommended by your eye doctor.
